Which option will provide the best result for the least commitment of time, energy and money? The "Dating Industry" often relies on, even takes advantage of, the deep desire most of us have to find that special person. The tools available are powerful if used with discretion and skill. What I know works best is a combination of tools that fit your lifestyle and budget. Maximizing exposure is key when you want to have options. Choosing the person who will be your soul mate is impossible if you don't have choices. Match.com is the largest and most populace internet dating service in the world. Their interface is user friendly and designed to make the search process simple. The filtering device is you. Use your common sense. They offer very good safety and dating advice, free to users. Take advantage of your personal network and ask for introductions. Throw a party and let your friends and family know that you would like them to bring "someone nice" with them. Go public that you are interested in meeting new people to date. Get out into the world where your soul mate is. Go do things. Single people work too much and stay home alone too much so go out. You'll meet people. Most of them won't be "The One" but they may know "The One."
Finally, if you use a dating service or a matchmaking service, do your research. Don't be embarrassed to ask around. Find some happy customers and a few unhappy ones as well. Find out why they liked or disliked the service. If you know 10 single people and you can't find one who has used a service, that's a good sign they may not be the best choice. Ask direct questions about pricing policies. Many matchmakers base the price you pay on your income. Insist on a price before you give them any personal information. Insist on seeing information about state regulations. Go online and do a legal search on the company to see if and how often they've been sued. Then, stop and ask yourself what else you could do to meet people. If a matchmaker has promised you 7 introductions to "quality matches" in one year for $7000, imagine how many people you might meet on a Single's Cruise to Mexico for under $1000.
